THATCHING BUILT ON CRAFT AND EXPERIENCE.
South West Thatching is a traditional thatching company based in Cornwall, specialising in the restoration, repair and creation of beautiful thatched roofs. From historic cottages to new builds and extensions, our work focuses on preserving the character of traditional buildings while ensuring every roof is built to last.
Meet the Thatchers.
South West Thatching is run by master thatchers Toby Marr and Jack Stiles, who share a passion for traditional building crafts and the preservation of historic thatched roofs.
Toby Marr
Toby began his career at just sixteen, pursuing a traditional apprenticeship after writing to dozens of thatchers across Cornwall and Devon in search of an opportunity.
After years of hands-on training and experience, he developed a deep understanding of traditional materials, conservation methods and the craft of thatching itself.

Jack Stiles.
Jack’s passion for thatching began while growing up in Coverack on the Lizard, surrounded by traditional Cornish buildings and cottages.
After working in building renovation, he quickly discovered a love for traditional roofing and went on to train in the craft, developing the skills and dedication needed to work on historic thatched properties.
Together they bring years of practical experience and a shared commitment to maintaining traditional standards of workmanship. Their approach combines careful attention to detail with a genuine respect for the heritage and character of every building they work on.
